I Am Sitting in the 1963 Ford Ranchero 4X4 Bench Seat Upholstery Update
I'm really not qualified to do this. I reupholstered my bench seat.
I've done upholstery a few times in the past. The first car I did was a 1969 Volvo 144S. I really liked that little car. I'm not 100% sold on the bench seat yet. I like it. But, I came really close to finding a pair of bucket seats at the wrecking yard and calling it a day.
So, enjoy the puckers and the wavy stitches. I went just about as simple as you can with a seat. There is absolutely nothing fancy here. In the future I may need to go back and make a few corrections.
I'll run it this way for a while. I'm happy with it. The next step is likely the throttle pedal and then either the wheel arches on the rear or fixing the fuel filler.
Enjoy.

1963 Ford Ranchero 4X4 Update Floors and Raw V6 Power
I made a lot of progress on the 1963 Ford Ranchero 4X4 project since the last time that I posted anything on UA-cam about it. Body mounts were made. The unibody construction of the Falcons mean the body mounts under the cabin floor are mostly just to support the occupants. I think it'll do well. A lot of the remnants of the original truck were cut out from under the bed and replaced. The primar...
Making Rusty Corten Steel Fountains
This video was cobbled together from files I recorded over a year ago. There might be a few awkward jumps in the narrative. But, I salvaged a lot of it from my computer that died late last year. One of my regular clients sent me some drawings and asked if I could make these fountains but sized different from the original drawings. I tossed a few CAD drawings together and got to work. I had some...
Turning a Bolt into a Wiper Knob
I really needed a knob for the wiper switch in the CJ5 Jeep. I decided to use an old 5/8" bolt from the bolt drawer. It works pretty well. I used the old Sheldon lathe. The cut-off tool was dull and needed sharpened. Then the drill bit was dull and needed sharpened. The cross-slide vise on the drill press wasn't mounted. Nobody lost an eye. So, it was successful. I found myself using the word k...
CJ5 Jeep Replacing the Megasquirt with Factory EFI
I stumble through this project with all the grace of a hippo in ballet slippers. When I first got this 1974 Jeep CJ5 the fuel injected 4.0 and AW4 were already installed. But, they barely ran. The injection system was a poorly cobbled hybrid of the early Renix and later Chrysler injection systems. I chose to go with the MegaSquirt open source injection control. It worked pretty well. But, I got...

This was a lot of work. I hope the video turned out okay and isn't too boring. So, our CJ5 was converted over to a 4.0 and automatic AW4 from a Cherokee. When we got it, it barely ran at all. I built a MegaSquirt and did a lot of work to it last year a some this year. Now it runs barely better. Anyway, enjoy the video. Leave a comment. Share with a friend. Poke the like button. Engine Hoist Forklift Modification for Roof Top Tent DIY

I built this forklift modification to lift a roof top tent off of a friend's Tahoe or Denali or whatever it is. He saw someone build an extension for the boom on one of these folding engine hoists. I came up with a slightly different solution. The video shows us using it before I made a few more changes. At one point, I thought about adding a lever to tilt the forks back. Actual progress has been made on the 4x4 Ranchero! In this update, I mention coming out of hibernation. It's true. I guess the rain and chilly weather has stopped enough to get me back into the garage. Of course, as I upload this video, the forecast for tomorrow is 90F. So, we have that to look forward to. I'd been wanting to try this for a while. I bought these two HUSKY tool chests from Home Depot early in 2022, I think. Anyway, I wanted a better base for my old Sheldon metal lathe. Thank you for the video, I picked up this same #40 model from Erick and, it was dark cherry red (very dirty). It is in better condition (judging from the fan), though the crank handle counter weight is missing. Does anyone know, where I could order? And what to use to clean gear box off grease? Grease - I think it was glease, thick as paste and not oil. I probably could not get 600weight oil anywhere. Thanks again.

    Is there an end stop at the thermometer? Because once you get over 300°C there is an exothermic reaction kicking off in the wood, usually quickly heating to 500°C, even when not heated further. So if your thermometer was at max, it seems like it is at least a good indicator of what is going on during the starting period. That fluid you caught in the pipe is a wild mixture of organics. Turpentine, "wood vinegar", "wood tar", It's not creosote. Creosote is a hard solid.

I do have a 47 Willys truck cab was going to use that on this 5.0 explorer, but frankly a rustchero would be cool.

    I bought this model Ford in 1960, as a non runner. Got it home somehow and had probs with the ignition system. Wrote to Ford in U.S.A, and they sent me a Works Manual on it by Airmail, at no cost.! Got it sorted, and when the log-book turned up the color was named as Orange Ice, the previous owner was none other than the British boxer Randolph Turpin, who, apparently brought it back from America after a tournament in 1959 or so.. I loved the car and the sound of that flathead V8 is still with me, but I never did find out why the Americans called it a Shoebox. Perhaps someone in the know could let me know.?..............

    • @JustinJennings
      @JustinJennings 2 місяці тому

      I think the shoebox name is because it was a much boxier shape than cars with external fenders. 1948 had pronounced front fenders and then 49 was sort of flat from front to back, like a shoebox. It's like the 1957 -60 Ford trucks are referred to as Fridges. They kind of look like a 1950's refrigerator. Cheers!

    • @johnrideout7124
      @johnrideout7124 2 місяці тому

      Many thanks Justin, with your use of fenders describing pre '50 vehicles, I fully understand the "Shoebox" as we use the word Mudguards. I see from Utube U.S. car shows that it is still a very popular sought after car.! I was in my local hostelry, having a quiet drink, when an American Airman came in and called out "Whos'e is the '50 outside".? I raised a finger and he came over and begged me to let him have a drive in it. I couldn't refuse, I knew most of them could drive at 10 years of age, so I suggested he keep to the left, and gave him the keys.! Ten minutes later, he came back, a happy boy, apparently, his folks used to have one the same, but a different colour, and he was a little homesick. I understood, having been sent to a ghastly other-side of the World posting myself. In the Military.! My next Beautiful U.S vehicle was a '53 Studebaker Champion, .........long story........Thanks again, Justin.!
